Staying in is new going out at the moment, so why not make staying in fun? A good cocktail in your glass and a good movie on your TV can go a long way to achieving this. This month we’ve created a gin pairing of a different kind, films to compliment your drink. In some cases, your cocktail might even make a cheeky cameo.
CASABLANCA X THE FRENCH 75
Have you watched Casablanca? It’s one of the first movies that show us a gin moment in cinema history. While Humphrey Bogart’s character drinks bourbon, the gin-and-champagne French 75 is the cocktail of preference for his ex-fling, the conflicted Yvonne.
INGREDIENTS
- 60ml of Beefeater gin
- 15ml of Gomme Syrup
- 30ml of lemon juice
- Top with Champagne

JAMES BOND X VESPER MARTINI
A movie that doesn’t need any introduction is of course Casino Royale. 🎬 First introduced in the novel of the same name back in 1953, the Vesper Martini is requested simply by Bond with a curt: “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?” Got it!
INGREDIENTS
- 60ml of Plymouth gin
- 20ml of Vodka
- 10ml of White Vermouth
- 1 strip of lemon zest

THE GREAT GATSBY X THE GIN RICKEY
A movie where most characters always have a drink on hand, but in this particular scene we are focusing on the Gin Rickey. A delightfully simple combination of lime, gin and soda, which is one of only two cocktails to be mentioned by name in the book.
INGREDIENTS
- Pour 4cl of gin into a Martini glass
- Add 4cl of vodka
- Add gin and lime juice to a Collins glass
- Add ice and top with soda water
- Serve without decoration
